Each day since the initial report, rescue workers including the Massachusetts State Police using sonar equipment and divers, have searched for the man to no avail.

LUDLOW -- Local police and other assisting agencies are meeting this morning to determine if they will again go to the Chicopee River to search for a man who witnesses saw jump from a bridge into the water Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt. Louis Tulik of the Ludlow Police Department said that although the search has been extensive, there have been no signs of the man so far.

"I can tell you that yesterday and the day before we spent a lot of time searching the area," Tulik said. "Now we are running into problems with the ice. We are hopeful that the warmer weather will help with that, but the ice is something that isn't helping."

Around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, several citizens reported seeing a man leap from the east side of the Putts Bridge that connects Indian Orchard to Ludlow. A short time later, considering the water temperature and the ferocity of the water flow, officials said the rescue operation turned into a recovery effort.

Each day since the initial report, rescue agencies including the Massachusetts State Police using sonar equipment and divers have searched for the man to no avail.

Additional information will be published to MassLive.com once the multi-agency meeting to decide whether the search will continue or not concludes.
