UPDATE, 10:23 a.m.: State police report that the westbound lanes have been reopened. One victim was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation.
LUDLOW -- State police, responding to a crash involving a tractor trailer and two passenger vehicles, shut down the westbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike Monday morning.
The crash was reported about 9:30 a.m. and state police said some of those involved were injured. All westbound traffic is being diverted off onto Interchange 7, according to a release issued by state police.
According to scanner reports, one of the passenger vehicles rolled over and the Jaws of Life were required to extricate one of the victims.
The tractor trailer unit, as of about 10 a.m., continued to block both westbound lanes, according to radio reports.
The three-vehicle crash marks the second major accident to occur in the westbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Ludlow since Friday.
A crash involving a wrong-way driver in the westbound lanes took the lives of two men about 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
