With temperatures below freezing, campaign workers took to the streets as the polls opened on Election Day.
Bundled up against the 20-degree fall temperature, Regina and Arthur Lourenco of Ludlow waved to passing motorists and sought out votes for a slate of Republican candidates.
The couple were among the first to vote at Precinct 3 at Ludlow High School when the doors opened at 7 a.m. After leaving the school library, they grabbed their signs and stood on Center Street, waving to cars as they entered the driveway or passed by.
The Lourencos felt it was important to be outside, promoting candidates with traditional values.
"I fee it is so important for our country to go back to what it once was – not a socialist state," Arthur Lourenco said.
His wife agreed. "We need to change the path this country is on."
Noting the absence of Democratic supporters on the street, Minerich reasoned it illustrated the passion Republicans feel for their candidates.
Minerich said he supported Brown because he was "middle-of-the-road" and has demonstrated the ability to work with both Republicans and Democrats.
"Scott is a self-thinker," Minerich said.
