Now that the autumn season is upon us, it is time for the 6th Annual Fall Photo Contest sponsored by MassLive.com and The Republican.

“This is our biggest photo contest,” said Laura Merwin, associate producer of MassLive.com.

“We get many hundreds of entries, and the quality of the photos is spectacular,” she said.

“The early fall colors are already spectacular and I’m expecting this year to be our most popular Fall Photo Contest to date,” said Ed Kubosiak Jr., MassLive.com editor-in-chief. “It’s a wonderful tradition that we’re happy to continue in 2012.”

Kubosiak added, “The quality of the amateur photos always amazes me, and I look forward with anticipation to the great scenes of New England that our readers will submit.”

The seven photos deemed the best by a panel of editors and photographers will be published on Page 1 of The Republican on successive days from Nov. 8 through Nov. 14.

Those who have their photos printed on Page 1 also will receive a plaque of the front page of the winning day’s edition. All entries also will be published on MassLive.com. Photos of runner-ups also will be selected and printed inside the newspaper each of those seven days.

The contest will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday. The deadline to submit photos is Oct. 21 at 11:59 p.m. To submit a photo, go to Masslive.com/fall-foliage to find the link to digitally submit a photo. To enter, fill out the form online and attach the photo, which will be uploaded by MassLive.com staff to the website. There may be a delay of up to 72 hours before the photo appears in the online photo gallery.

Only one photo per person will be accepted.

Read the complete rules to get questions answered.

“We get more than 400 entries for this contest,” Merwin said. “Our other photo contests are growing, but this is still our most popular photo contest.”

“The photo contests are community builders for us,” Merwin said. She said readers are invited to view all the photographs on MassLive.com and to comment on them.
