The crashes remain under investigation.
LUDLOW - Ludlow police and fire were busy early Saturday morning, responding to a car that crashed into a house on Chapin Street and a head-on collision on Center Street that left an Audi in flames.
Police Sgt. Daniel J. Valadas said the first accident was reported just after 1 a.m. at 200 Chapin St. The elderly resident, who had been sleeping, was awoken when a 2005 Ford Mustang, operated by Brian Persson, 20, of Bondsville Road, crashed into her house, Valadas said.
Valadas said Persson hit the home’s water line, and caused flooding. Persson has two passengers in the car; no one was injured. Seat belt use is unknown.
He said Persson was charged with marked lanes violation, and the accident remains under investigation. The Fire Department called the building inspector to assess the damage to the home.
The second accident was reported approximately an hour later, at 2:11 a.m., in the area of 893 Center St. When officers arrived on scene, one vehicle was on fire and a driver in the second vehicle was trapped and had to be extricated by emergency personnel, he said.
Valadas said Alexander J. Surreira, 21, of Brook Hollow Drive, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor; he will be summoned to court on the charge. He was in a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta and suffered serious injuries, Valadas said. He was extricated from the car.
The preliminary investigation showed that Surreira drifted into the other lane and struck the 2006 Audi operated by Todd Goncalves, 36, of Meadowlark Circle, which caught fire, Valadas said.
Valadas said a female passenger in Goncalves car was taken to Baystate Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Surriera also was taken to Baystate. The crash remains under investigation.
