UPDATE, 1:27 p.m.: The home at 795 Center St. is owned by George W. and Rena J. Stuart, an employee at the Ludlow assessor's office said Wednesday.
UPDATE, 1:09 p.m.: Radio reports indicate that police are in contact and negotiating with an armed suspect.
Reporter George Graham reports that Center Street is closed at the Rood Street junction, at Randall's Farm. Wilbraham police are assisting with traffic control. A state police helicopter is in the air overhead.
State Police units, including K-9 units, have staged on Fox Hill Road.
UPDATE, 12:55 p.m.: A staff photographer for The Republican reports heavy police presence at the scene.
UPDATE, 11:58 p.m.: CBS 3 Springfield, media partner of The Republican and MassLive.com, reports the fire consumed a garage at 795 Center St.
LUDLOW -- Firefighters are at the scene of a blaze on Center Street, a town dispatcher said Wednesday morning.
The dispatcher said the fire involves a building that is "fully engulfed," but could not provide further details or confirm an exact location. Radio reports indicate the fire is in the vicinity of the 700 block of Center Street.
The fire was reported shortly before 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.
