Police continue to search for a second suspect.
SPRINGFIELD – Police, working with their counterparts in Ludlow, arrested a 24-year-old man from that town who allegedly attempted to rob a 22-year-old Indian Orchard man at gunpoint Friday morning.
Sgt. John M. Delaney said the victim used an ATM machine on Main Street in Indian Orchard at about 1:20 a.m. and was walking back home when he was held up at gunpoint by a stranger and a man known to the victim as Ludlow resident James Curry.
Delaney, aide to Commissioner William J. Fitchet, said Curry was an acquaintance of an old friend of the victim’s.
The victim did not relinquish any money and the two suspects fled, Delaney said.
The victim called police and Officer Bernardino Lochiatto broadcast a description of the suspect to Ludlow police.
Shortly before 4:40 a.m., Officers Sean Knox and Steven Johnson of the Ludlow Police Department spotted a car parked on Woodside Road in their town and James Curry was a passenger.
The Ludlow police officers asked Lochiatto to bring the victim to their town to make a positive identification of Lochiatto. The victim did so and Curry was arrested and brought to the Springfield Police station for booking and arraignment.
Curry, of 209 Cady Street, was charged with armed assault with intent to rob and threats.
Curry denied the charges in District Court and was ordered held in lieu of $1,000 cash bail. A bindover hearing to determine whether the case will be tried in District Court or Superior Court will be held on July 2.
